Reasons To Consider Cremation In Your Funeral Pre-Plan
Posted on: 25 May 2016
The popularity of cremation has increased. It's predicted that soon more people will choose cremation over burial. When drafting up your own funeral pre-plan, here are some reasons why you may want to select cremation for the final disposition of your physical body.
1. You have more options to control the costs of your funeral arrangements.
There are a number of options available to you to reduce the cost of you funeral, such as:
- You don't need to be embalmed or make use of restoration services when you are cremated.
- Your cremains can be stored in a simple box so you won't need to purchase a casket.
- You can have your cremains scattered over a favorite location so you won't need to purchase a cemetery plot or columbarium niche.
If you're not concerned with the costs, you can still take advantage of these options when choosing cremation. For example:
- If you wish to have a viewing, you can have the funeral home (such as Taylor Funeral Home) embalm your body, do any restoration that is needed, and rent a casket for the service. You'll then be cremated after the viewing.
- You can purchase a casket to have your cremains buried in a standard cemetery plot.
- You can have your cremains buried in a special area set aside in the cemetery with smaller plots for cremation containers or be placed in a niche in a columbarium.
When you choose cremation, you have more ways in which to plan your funeral arrangements.
2. You give your family more flexibility with which to execute your funeral plans.
The funeral home has a limited amount of time in which to do something with your body. Your family must quickly make all of the arrangements to fulfill your final requests. If you choose to be cremated right after you pass away, then your family has more time to get the funeral notices out and coordinate the services with speakers and other participants.
This also benefits friends and family who must travel from long distances to attend your funeral. Once you are cremated, your family can allow time for those people to make their travel plans so they can pay their respects to you.
3. You have some eco-friendly options available to you with cremation.
If you're concerned about the impact that you'll have on the environment, you'll have more options open to you with cremation, such as:
- By being cremated right away, you can skip the use of harsh embalming chemicals.
- By having your cremains buried in a small box or urn, you take up less space in a cemetery.
- By having your cremains scattered over a favorite spot, you'll take up no space at all.
4. You'll make it easier for your family to get you back home.
If you travel frequently and should pass away when out of town, cremation makes it easier for your family to get you back home for the funeral. This is especially important if you travel outside of the country. Getting your body back after your death is a complicated and expensive activity. If you allow yourself to be cremated where you passed away, your cremains can be shipped to your family using a simple delivery service.
